Huntersville Real Estate - Mecklenburg County Homes

In 1990, Huntersville is home to only 3,000 residents. Because of its proximity to The Queen City and the lake as well as lower home prices and quiet residential communities, Huntersville’s population increased with a whopping 728%, giving way to 35,000 new residents as of today.

The dramatic increase in population, fertile land and a rail line gave way to new real estate developments, ranging from different home styles, including waterfront condominiums, luxury apartments, family-oriented neighborhoods and homes with bike trails and sidewalks.

Located in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, Huntersville town is about 12 miles north of downtown Charlotte. Huntersville is known for its lake community because of its proximity to the man-made Lake Norman via Duke Power to serve the area’s electricity needs. Lake Norman, the man-made lake with over 500 miles of scenic views, attracts fishermen, water skiers and boaters from its surrounding areas.

Huntersville, which is the first town in North Charlotte, was named after one of its founding fathers and a local cotton farmer named Robert Boston Hunter. Even before the town was incorporated in 1873, local farmers grew cotton on their land, attracting many families from all over the country. The Virgin Manufacturing Company Cotton Mill encouraged Huntersville’s development as a “Mill Town”.

With the development of Huntersville's cotton plantations, textile mills soon emerged as its business community and the town’s population grew. Both old and new residents enjoy Huntersville’s small-town charisma and city amenities. The town has a Park and Recreation Department that organizes regular classes, sports events and cultural shows for all ages. It offers several golf courses including Arnold Palmer's Birkdale Golf Club, the private Northstone Country Club and the semi-private Skybrook Golf Club.

Huntersville is home of the renowned Business Park – a premier retail, business and residential area that boasts one of the largest corporations in the southeast U.S. with big-named companies such as 3M, Panasonic, Mattel and Ingersoll-Rand. A few blocks away from the Business Park are luxury condominiums, town homes, cul-de-sac neighborhoods and apartments.

Although most of the residential and business areas in Huntersville are new, the Mill Town preserves 18 historical sites, such as the 1740 Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 1770 Hugh Torance House and Store, The Historic Rural Hill Farm and the Latta Plantation Nature Preserve – the county’s largest green space with raptor center, hiking trails and an equestrian center.

The wealthy town also boasts world-class retail stores inside mixed-use development areas. These include the Birkdale Village - a residential, shopping, dining and office destination all in one spot. It is home to numerous boutiques, restaurants, movie theaters and a wealth of concerts and events held right in the midst of its fountain. For a family day out, the Rosedale Shopping Center could cater to all ages with its variety of stores ranging from ABC Store to Domino’s Pizza. It boasts dozens of restaurants, boutiques and salons.

Located five miles south of Lake Norman on I-77, Huntersville attracts many people from its neighboring areas who wish to reside in a community with a small-town charisma, but also boasts all the amenities, facilities and technology a big city can offer.
